Christmas tree growers unify

By Pippa Shanks

The £7 million Christmas tree trade is suffering at the hands of roadside “cowboys” who are giving the public a raw deal.  So believes the British Christmas Tree Growers’ Association which has now been officially launches with 48 members.

The Association says it aims to promote sales of live Christmas trees, provide marketing information to growers and encourages the exchange of ideas and information.  It also aims to produce “kite mark” to label members’ trees with a stamp of quality.

That article was published in 1980.

The BCTGA 30 years later has well over 320 members and sells 8 million trees per year. The role of the Association has not changed and the BCTGA Logo is now well known as a symbol of quality. With our environmental Code of Practice we ensure that trees are grown in a sustainable manner for the customer.
